The British Conveyancing Awards are seen as one of the major industry awards for conveyancing and cover the entire United Kingdom. This year’s Awards seek to recognise individuals, teams and companies who have gone above and beyond to support buyers and sellers to move home during the most challenging year the conveyancing industry has perhaps ever seen.

The Award categories have been purposely chosen to identify and recognise the conveyancing champions within the sector and shine a spotlight on people and businesses' hard work, achievements, and resilience across the industry throughout the last 12 months.

During a virtual ceremony hosted by multi-award-winning journalist and broadcaster Samira Ahmed, the winners of each category were announced, with Martin Tolhurst achieving an impressive three wins for:

-     Risk & Compliance Champion of the Year

-     Mental Health & Well-being Conveyancing Firm of the Year

-     Best Use of Marketing

Martin Tolhurst Managing Partner, Richard Carter said:

“I am absolutely delighted at our success in these Awards. It is great to see the hard work of those in our compliance, human resources and marketing departments being recognised for their fabulous work. Our HR department has worked hard on making a difference to our staff in their wellbeing and mental health work over the challenging pandemic period. Our marketing department has gone to another level this year and mitigating risk for our clients and our Firm is at the very  heart of our conveyancing work. We will definitely be having a staff celebration later this year to mark the winning of these awards!"

The Awards we won were:

Risk & Compliance Champion of the Year

This category recognises the individuals who ensured that risk and compliance remained a central part of their conveyancing department's day to day operations in a rapidly changing risk landscape.

The judges about Martin Tolhurst: "Richard is especially commended for his voluntary contributions to Risk & Compliance through his work on the LSMLTF. Richard has demonstrated that he is a champion of risk and compliance both internally and externally. His personal involvement in training sessions to foster an effective risk and compliance culture is further evidence of leading by example, which is worthy to be emulated by others".

Mental Health & Well-Being Conveyancing Firm of the Year

In an unprecedented year, both personally and professionally, attitudes toward mental health and wellbeing have been under the spotlight. With Law Care reporting a 9% increase in legal professionals contacting the charity for emotional support in 2020, this award recognises the firm that has placed staff welfare at the heart of its human resources effort.

The judges added: "A good entry with clear evidence of creative thinking: recognising and addressing individual needs and strong involvement from the senior team. Mental health champions approach is great evidence of an embedded culture".

Best Use of Marketing

This award looks at all aspects of how a firm or legal supplier promotes itself and has shown that its use of marketing strategy has positively reached potential clients and increased the firm on and off line presence.

The judges about Martin Tolhurst's shortlist: "We like the use of influencer marketing, rare in the legal sector and challenging to do well. A particularly refreshing approach for a law firm by creating an emotional connection with their target audience".
