More Than You Might Expect: A Different Side to Working at Martin Tolhurst Solicitors

When you think about working at a law firm, what comes to mind? A very formal office, a traditional working environment or perhaps somewhere that feels a little intimidating?

Before joining Martin Tolhurst Solicitors, I had my own preconceived ideas about what working in a law firm might be like. I felt a mixture of nerves and excitement about the new challenge, along with a little curiosity about the people and working environment.

Would I fit in? What would my new colleagues be like? Had I made the right career move?

Thankfully, those nerves quickly disappeared. What I discovered was a welcoming environment, with friendly colleagues who were ready to support me and help me grow, both professionally and personally. It turned out to be a refreshing and rewarding career move.

I regularly speak to people at different stages of their legal careers, from experienced professionals looking for their next challenge to those still developing their skills and exploring opportunities for progression.

Whatever stage you're at, taking the next step in your career isn't always straightforward. And that's exactly why I want to share a different side to working at Martin Tolhurst Solicitors, one that you might not expect.

A Traditional Reputation Doesn't Mean a Traditional Experience

Martin Tolhurst Solicitors has a long history and an established reputation within the legal profession. While we're proud of that history, there's much more to the firm than its traditional roots.

Behind the professional image are people with different personalities, backgrounds, experiences and career journeys, all bringing something unique to the team. Of course, professionalism is at the heart of what we do, but that doesn't mean the working environment has to feel intimidating or overly formal.

One thing I'd love more candidates to understand is that joining an established law firm doesn't necessarily mean stepping into the kind of workplace they might imagine.

You can work in a professional environment while still being surrounded by friendly, approachable colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge and offer support.

Not long after starting with Martin Tolhurst Solicitors, I remember emailing one of our Partners with a question. Rather than simply replying by email, he took the time to give me a call, talk everything through and reassure me that no question was too 'silly' to ask.
