National Conveyancing Week is an annual event that celebrates the dedicated and skilled professionals who work tirelessly to ensure that property transactions run smoothly. In this blog post, we are delighted to feature Gemma Nie, one of the conveyancers at our Gillingham office. In her interview, we will learn about her unique journey to property law, the significant milestones that have contributed to her career growth, and what sets her apart in this dynamic field.

Can you tell us a little bit about what initially drew you towards a career in law?

It wasn't exactly a linear path. During my work experience placement at a solicitor's firm, I was fortunate to encounter some truly wonderful people. One solicitor in particular took me under her wing, allowing me to gain valuable experience during school holidays and even a couple of afternoons a week. The supportive environment and exposure to the legal world definitely sparked my interest.

That's a fantastic way to get your foot in the door! Did you explore different areas of law before settling on conveyancing?

I did! I was curious to see what other legal fields were like, so I reached out to other solicitors and got a taste of various practices. While each area was interesting in its own way, conveyancing really resonated with me. There's a sense of satisfaction in helping people navigate the process of buying or selling a property, something that can be quite significant in their lives.

Looking back on your journey, what would you say have been some of the most significant moments?

Winning the "Conveyancer of the Year" award in 2019 was a huge honour, a recognition of the hard work and dedication I put into my role. However, the most significant moments for me are often the smaller interactions. Over the past nine years, I've had the privilege of meeting and working with fantastic people, both clients and colleagues. Building those relationships and witnessing the satisfaction of a successful transaction are truly rewarding experiences.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?

This firm has provided me with so much opportunity and support, and I hope to continue growing and contributing my skills here for many years to come. I would like to call it my forever home.
