Important Clarification - Martin Tolhurst Solicitors unconnected to recent AML sanction

Martin Tolhurst Solicitors wishes to make it unequivocally clear that we are in no way connected to the recent article published by Legal Futures concerning a law firm fined for serious anti-money laundering (AML) compliance failures.
The original version of the article inaccurately named Martin Tolhurst Solicitors as the subject of the sanction. This was wholly incorrect. Although the publication has now amended the piece, the correction has been confined to a small footnote at the end of the article. Unfortunately, this error was already visible to many readers and has understandably caused confusion and concern.
We consider this mistake to be a serious lapse in journalistic accuracy and due diligence. In an era where trust, transparency and responsibility are paramount, especially in matters of regulatory compliance, it is deeply regrettable that such a fundamental error was made and then insufficiently highlighted in the correction process.
Martin Tolhurst Solicitors has an exemplary record of AML compliance. In 2024, the firm underwent a comprehensive desktop review inspection by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), which resulted in very positive findings. This reflects our longstanding commitment to the highest standards of professional conduct, ethical practice, and robust internal controls.
We urge media organisations to take greater care in their fact-checking processes and to give proper prominence to corrections when errors of this magnitude occur.
For the avoidance of doubt:
- Martin Tolhurst Solicitors is not the subject of the article.
- We have not been fined or sanctioned for any AML failures.
- Our firm’s compliance practices have been positively reviewed by the SRA in 2024.
Our clients, partners, and community can continue to place their full confidence in our professionalism and integrity.
