Katie Philpot

Solicitor

I am a Solicitor in the Family Team at Martin Tolhurst Solicitors, having joined the firm in May 2026.

I advise clients on a broad range of family law matters, including divorce and separation, financial arrangements and disputes involving children. I understand that family proceedings can be difficult and emotionally challenging, so I work closely with my clients to understand their individual circumstances, explain their options clearly and help them work towards a practical resolution.

How I Can Help You

Family law matters are often very personal, and I believe it is important that clients feel listened to, supported and fully informed throughout the process.

I can assist with a range of family law matters, including:

  • Divorce and separation
  • Financial arrangements following relationship breakdown
  • Disputes and arrangements concerning children

My approach is clear, practical and client-focused. I aim to make the legal process as understandable as possible, while helping clients consider the options available to them and the best way forward for their particular circumstances.

My Legal Journey

I graduated from the University of Surrey in 2021 with an Upper Second Class Honours degree in LLB Law.

I then completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Guildford after being awarded the Law Society’s Diversity Access Scheme Scholarship. I graduated with a distinction in 2022.

After completing my studies, I moved back to Kent to undertake my training contract at another regional law firm. This gave me the opportunity to gain experience across a broad range of legal practice areas.

During my training, I developed a strong interest in family law. I enjoy the variety of the work, as no two matters are the same, and I find it rewarding to support clients through what can often be a significant period in their lives.

The experience I gained during my training helped me build strong foundations in family law and confirmed that this was the area in which I wanted to specialise.

About Me

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and exploring new places. I also love walks by the sea with my husband and our crazy spaniel, Rolo.

If I were not a lawyer, I would be...

A café owner by the sea, enjoying a slower pace of life and serving the best coffee around!

If I were stranded on a desert island and could take three pieces of music with me, they would be...

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) by ABBA, followed by American Girls by Harry Styles and Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears.
