Countrywide legal consumer information campaign launched

qualified to answer

We are backing the Law Society's information campaign to make consumers in Kent aware of how solicitors can help them solve a wide range of problems.

The YOUR SOLICITOR, QUALIFIED TO ANSWER campaign, which takes a Beatles theme with the strapline ‘Help, I need somebody', will be featured in the print media and on posters in more than 200 stations, with 100 million opportunities to see.

It will run from September 21 to November 21, and is aimed at encouraging consumers to use solicitors by highlighting the kinds of problems they can help with and how having the right legal information can help save money, time or heartache and often all three.

The campaign focuses on the reassurance to be gained by seeking advice from a properly qualified professional, using the strapline ‘Your solicitor - qualified to answer'. The advertisements identify situations in which people need legal help. The headline - "Help, I need somebody" - will be familiar to most, and the call to action is ‘Find a solicitor'.

" We are delighted to be involved in this excellent campaign. The Law Society have been spot on with their initiative to promote registered Solicitors especially at this time when it may be tempting to visit unregistered Solicitors due to financial circumstances. We pride ourselves on clients "benefiting from our experience" and we are only to aware of what can happen to vulnerable people when not advised correctly"

One example is when a client came to Martin Tolhurst for advice after they had visited an unregulated will writing firm. The lady client prepared a will with a local will writer who persuaded her to use the will writing company as her Executors. The family then later found out when her mother died that the Executor's fees were set at a rate of 5% of the estate - when property is involved this can prove expensive The company refused to renounce probate and since will writing firms are unregulated this caused a number of problems and also distress for the family at this difficult time. The family ended up going to the probate registry to try to have matters resolved by removal of them as Executor causing extra unnecessary expense and aggravation.
